Kris Cvetković was born in Serbia in 1976, and moved to Canada in 1987.
Though he’s been drawing and painting most of his life, Kris chose a career in graphic design instead. He graduated from the Advertising & Graphic Design program at Humber College in Toronto in 1996.
Kris continued to hone his skills in drawing and painting in parallel with his design studies. He studied Byzantine icon painting under the guidance of an accomplished painter and icon maker; in 2015 and 2017 Kris took workshops in portraiture and printmaking, respectively, at the AGO.
Stylistically, the Impressionists, and Abstract Expressionists had the biggest impact on Kris’ art. His themes, however, focus on nature, organized chaos, cause-and-effect, and micro- and macro-patterns found in both nature and the urban environment.

I’ve always been interested in creating visual narratives using a series of pieces that, when put together, form a cohesive story. Conversely, I also work on several pieces at a time using the same technique, until I fully exhaust the possibilities of the task or idea I’ve presented to myself.
Thematically, I tackle various topics and experiment with narration using visual abstraction and colour. The topics can be a single word or an entire concept. I don’t focus on a specific area of interest but rather pick something that I find relevant at the time, whether it be personal or part of current events.
Stylistically, I create interwoven shapes either out of a multitude of vibrant colours, or one dominant colour, and then look for ways to merge them with other elements into cohesive patterns. I take the objects I observe (buildings, water streams, traffic flow, rain storm clouds) and look for ways to present them in my current visual language.
